03.05.14my favorite pastime…

Been working on some new pendant ideas for spring.  Organic in shape, simple, and mixed with silk and mohair…  I love love love mixing fibers and clay, it’s one of my favorite pastimes…

IMG_7836 IMG_7835 I love detail and pattern.  It’s been a brutal winter here in the Northeast, felting for hours leaves my hands, well…. COLD!  So I’ve been keeping them busy by rolling clay and practicing traditional millefiori caning techniques, one of my favorite things to do.  These techniques are covered in my Intro to polymer clay workshop.  If you’re local, come and check them out!  We work on pendant designs, and who knows, perhaps I’ll even bring some fibers to share for students that like mixing mediums as much as I do… IMG_7834 I like the marbling effects of clay when it’s mixed with translucent polymer.  Why it took me so long to play with translucent clay, I’ll never know, but I like it!  Make sure to check out the polymer clay workshops coming up this spring.  I need to finish stringing these and then up on etsy they go.  Happy crafting!

When crafters are made aware that there’s a storm approaching, they tend to snap into dream mode immediately.  Imagining endless hours of uninterrupted knitting or sewing (or knitting and sewing)… Though something so wonderful rarely happens, I try my hardest to spend at least some of my snow day doing a few of my favorite things like baking bread and working with polymer clay.  Baking bread for obvious reasons and polymer work, well it’s therapy at it’s best.  It’s reallllly nice to sit with smaller projects, staying warm under a blanket and busy with the details of your work.  So relaxing…

It was a long day of ins and outs, (mostly out, hence my pink snow boots on Mr.W, his were soaked).   I didn’t get a ton of work done unfortunately, but they had a blast in the snow, so it was a good day nonetheless.  In between pots of soup, fixing gloves, hot chocolate runs and fetching tissues, I surfed around Pinterest  browsing recipes and counter tops.  So… back to work it is.  Here’s a sneak peak at the cuffs…
